WhatsApp new features keeps pushing new updates to make conversations more useful and productive. The latest addition is “Message Reminders”, a feature that reminds you of important texts you don’t want to forget. Instead of relying on starred messages or external apps, WhatsApp now lets you set a reminder directly inside the chat.

This update has already started rolling out to iOS users on version 25.25.74, and Android users are expected to receive it soon.

What Are WhatsApp Message Reminders?

Message Reminders let you turn any chat message into a scheduled notification. Think of it like a mini to-do list inside WhatsApp:

  • You get a reminder notification at your chosen time.
  • It links back to the exact message.
  • It works in both individual and group chats.

This is especially helpful if someone sends you an address, deadline, or task you can’t remember immediately. Instead of forgetting about it, you can create a reminder with just a few taps.

How to Set a Message Reminder on WhatsApp

The process is simple and takes less than 10 seconds:

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone and go to the chat with the message you want to remember.
  2. Long-press the message until a menu appears.
  3. Tap on More → Remind Me
  4. Choose a reminder time (2 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours) or set a custom date and time.
  5. Once set, you’ll see a bell icon next to the message.

When the reminder time arrives, WhatsApp will send you a notification with the message preview, so you can quickly jump back to it.

Why This Feature Matters

We’ve all been there: you receive an important message, think “I’ll reply later,” and then completely forget. Until now, the only options were starring the message or marking the chat as unread, but neither guaranteed a timely nudge.

Message Reminders solve that problem by:

  • Boosting productivity: Never miss deadlines or tasks sent on WhatsApp.
  • Reducing clutter: No need for external reminder apps.
  • Improving follow-ups: Great for work chats, project coordination, and study groups.
  • Personal convenience: Perfect for remembering birthdays, shopping lists, or family chores.

Privacy and Limitations

Like most WhatsApp features, privacy is a priority. Reminders are:

Local and private: only you see them.

Invisible to others:people in the chat won’t know you set one.

Customizable: you can cancel or reschedule reminders anytime.

Only available on iOS (for now), with Android rollout expected soon.

How Does It Compare to Other WhatsApp Features?

Starred messages: Good for saving important info, but no time-based notifications.

Mark as unread: Helps keep chats highlighted, but still easy to overlook.

Message reminders: Actively notify you when you need it.

This makes Message Reminders the most action-oriented productivity feature on WhatsApp to date.

Tips for Using Message Reminders Effectively

  • Use it for meeting links and deadlines in work groups.
  • Set reminders for event invites so you don’t miss them.
  • Apply it in study groups to review notes or assignments on time.
  • Use custom reminders for travel plans or shopping lists.

Final Thoughts

The new Message Reminder feature on WhatsApp is a small but powerful update that blends productivity with everyday communication. By letting users set time-based alerts for specific messages, WhatsApp makes it easier to keep track of tasks, deadlines, and important notes without leaving the app.

For millions of people who rely on WhatsApp as their primary communication tool, this is a game-changer. If you haven’t received it yet, keep an eye out for upcoming updates, because once you start using reminders, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.
